bon temps

There was good news on the economic front today as the Census Bureau released a new report showing that a full six out of seven Americans are not living in poverty.

"It's been a rough couple of years," said Timothy Geithner, "So these figures really came as a bit of surprise, albeit a pleasant one. Gosh, the way people have been yammering on, you'd think that everybody was starving, when the fact is that only about 14.3% of them are. And they're not really starving, just what could be called nutritionally deprived."

The data did show a marked increase in the poverty level which began, oh, right about the time George W Bush took office, but all in all it was still somewhat lower than 1994. And as Geithner was quick to point out, "1994 was good times, yeah, real good times. I was an attaché at the US embassy in Tokyo, a young buck in one of the great cities of the world, and... do you even know what an attaché is? Well, apparently no one else at the embassy did either. Like I said, good times."

  1. That Geithner is such a man of the people. I'll bet he even takes the bus to work when he can afford the fare.
