for chrissakes, have a cuppa tea

Krugman writes an entertaining little column today, a rare one that focuses on elephants rather than economics. "Republicans have become embarrassing to watch," he says, "and it doesn’t feel right to make fun of crazy people." I enjoy reading Krugman, but I'm afraid that I couldn't agree with him less, because there simply is never a wrong time to make fun of crazy people.

Krugman reminds us how zany some of these loonies were when Clinton was in office, and sure, he's got a point. There was a whole cottage industry of fools tallying the number of murders that Bill and Hillary had committed, and yeah, Rush was there, Hannity and Coulter too, but they weren't really perceived of as thinkers except by a certain demented minority. Now the lunatic fringe is the only part that remains of the once invincible GOP poncho. It's a big fringe, no doubt about it, but it's still going to be quite a hoot to watch it paraded around as formal wear at the big tea party.
